At Syn-Tex we also make bigger bags for bigger jobs!

Since 1979 Syn-Tex Convertors Ltd. have been the major supplier of gravel bags, filter fabric grout matts and other methods of slope protection in the rugged Beaufort Sea area of Alaska and Canada.

We specialize in the manufacturing of bags for other uses:
  1. Short life emergency wave protection and flood control.
  2. Medium life wave protection. (5 to 6 years)
  3. Long life wave protection. (20 years)
  4. Temporary bulkheads.
  5. River Diversions.
  6. Coffer dams.
  7. Wiers or drop structures.

Island Erosion Prevention

In the case of our Beaufort Sea drilling islands, the bags offer year round protection. Two or four cubic yard bags filled with gravel will incur little damage during the eight months the ice will prevail. When the ice is gone, these same bags will provide the island with the protection required to prevent major erosion and slope damage.

2. Flood of the Century
The winter of 1997 saw a record snowfall land on Minnesota, North Dakota, and Manitoba. The winter long accumulation and subsequent fast spring melt caused the Red River to grossly overflow its' banks. Flooding was prevalent from Grand Forks, N.D. to Winnipeg, Manitoba inclusive. A river had become a lake flowing Northward destroying everything in its path including towns, farmland, and wildlife.

The city of Winnipeg, Manitoba realized the seriousness of this flood when the high water levels and extreme pressures destroyed the dikes in Grand Forks, N.D.. The entire city was under water and the threat was now very real that the same thing could happen in Winnipeg as the water continued to accumulate and flow North. The city of Winnipeg's engineers had to be proactive if they wanted to prevent the ultimate disater from occuring.

Brunkild Z Dike

Syn-Tex became a consultant in this process. We had what people were referring to as "super sand bags" that could be used as a unique form of pre-fabricated diking. These 3000 pound bags were used in numerous locations throughout Southern Manitoba and Winnipeg. In particular, they played a major part in the infamous "Z" dike near Brunkild, Manitoba which was constructed in an amazing 3 days from start to finish and extended some 15 full miles. These "super sand bag" walls could withstand the intense water weights and levels that this Flood of the Century had to offer.
